The native token of Locality Network

$LOCA is the native token of the Locality Network, used to pay transaction fees on the blockchain.

Every blockchain operation requires a network fee paid in $LOCA.

Communities pay these fees for their members, who do not need to manage the network cost themselves.

$LOCA powers the network. Community Tokens power Community economies.

Who pays the fee?

Every action carries a network fee, always paid in $LOCA. What changes is who pays it.

Inside a Community

The Community always pays

Whatever the role - owner, admin, sender, receiver or member - voting, booking, and managing teams, members and services inside a Community are paid from its own account, so no one needs $LOCA of their own. A member who is disabled loses this at once.

Guests

Only for booking

A guest registered with a Team is covered to book, cancel, and join or leave a queue, and for nothing else.

Outside a Community

The sender pays

Creating a Community is the one exception: it is the root of a new tree, so there is no existing account yet to pay the fee. Creating a Team or sub-team inside an existing Community, though, is paid by the Community like any other action. The same self-paid rule applies to sending $LOCA, or a Community Token, straight to another account.

$LOCA and a Community Token, side by side

The network's

$LOCA

One token for the whole network. It pays the fee of every operation, whatever the Community.

Each Community's

A Community Token

Created with the Community, one per Community. It is what members receive, send and use inside it.

Kept apart

Names that cannot clash

The names loca, uloca and mloca are reserved, so no Community can take them for its own token. Two Communities cannot share a name either.

The units of $LOCA

One token, three sizes. The blockchain itself counts in the smallest.

loca
The unit you read: a loca is a million uloca.
mloca
A thousandth of a loca: a thousand uloca.
uloca
The base unit, the smallest: it cannot be split.
